The Rise and Fall of Rome Skit

Many skits used humor to arouse the audience's attention, following with laughs. I must say, most skits were much longer than ours. It felt awkward to finish so quickly when all the others were so long and took much longer than 4 minutes. We had only dotted in quick main points, while all others were very detailed in theirs. But everyone's skits were all very interesting, including the development of our own.

THE SKIT!!!

Although, we messed up a couple of times, I thought we were sort of okay and that this is a good experience. Many other groups did very well and were humorous, creative, and etc. I hope that we have this assignment next time WITH a script provided!!! Just Kidding!

Finally! Free! Religion! Christianity!

Many Christians have died because of their belief. In Ancient Rome there were many slaughtered. Finally a Roman Ruler put a stop to that in A.D 313. That ruler was Emperor Constantine. Constantine was one of the two people who helped Rome stand for 200 years before the decline (well for the western part anyway). The people finally had the right to worship freely. The population of Christians spread.

Archaeology and Anthropology

From my history class, I learned about archaeology and anthropology. Archaeology is the recovery and the study of physical evidence from the past, and anthropology is the study of humans and human cultures. They both are really important to history because archaeology and anthropology are ways of gathering informations from the past. Also, by gathering new informations, historians can make new deductions about the past civilizations.

The Fall of Rome!

Like many other empires, the great and mighty ROME has FALLEN to their

destruction and insignificance to the modern world (physically, it has a huge influence on other countries.) and a lot of rome's decline had to do with internal problem like POLITICIANS, LOYALTIES, and ECONOMY ( does anyone think those sound familiar???) well, thanks to CONSTANTINE, and DIOCLETIAN, rome lasted another 200 YEARS! after that Rome was under attack by many cultures and rome was physically wiped off the "FACE OF THE EARTH". well at least half of it. Diocletian had split Rome in two as a way to make governing easier, and the west side eventually crumbled. Constantine had also moved the capital of rome to Byzantium, hence the BYZANTIUM EMPIRE, but Constantine was so popular, the city was then changed to CONSTANTINOPLE AND THAT IS THE FALL OF ROME.

The Byzantine Empire's Religious Affect on the City of Urfa

Christianity spread throughout the Byzantine Empire, and it had influenced many cities, including Urfa, which is also known as Sanliurfa. Urfa is believed to be the birthplace of Abraham, and it is said that he was immolated on a funeral pyre, but God turned the fire into water and the coals into fish. Even after the Byzantine Empire fell, christian beliefs were left there. Even the sacred pool of fish is here to this day.

The Glorious Army of Rome

Rome had a very powerful army that was used to conquer most of the land at the peak of Rome's success. Part of the army's viciousness is contributed by Roman's natural desire for blood and gore as shown by the popular gladiator fights.

Julius and Augustus

I learned that Julius was a leader that just declared himself emporer. The people like him but the Senate didn't so they killed him. Augustus took power and everyone liked him. His rule brought peace to the empire. He extended the empire a far way out.

Latitude and Longitude

In class, I learned latitude and longitude. What really help me remember longitude and latitude is that one rhyme we learned. I think it went, "Latitude has an attitude and it doensn't want to get up." It really is helpful to remember.

END OF THE EMPIRE

Clovis the leader the Franks, conquered the remaining Roman land in Gual. The Franksih kingdom grew large and powerful. The eastern part of Rome became Byzantine Empire and kept thriving while the western part fell.

Clovis the powerful Frank leader in Rome

The Rule Of Justinian

Justinian expanded the Roman empire during his rule. He also developed a legal code that regulated a lot of Byzantine life and servde the empire for about nine hundred years. He built a very complicated palace which he ruled and lived with his wife.

ARCHITECTURE

The Colosseum Flavian Amphiteathre is a "BIG" part of history, first it's 188m by 156m and the height of 48m.It can hold up to 55,000 spectators and could enter trough no less than 80 entrances. It had four stories, the lower story was for lower classes and women.Under the Colosseum were wild animals and medical devices. The cages were the animals were enabling the animals to appear in the middle of the arena

The Rise of Christianity

Christianity is a religion based on the belief that there is one almighty god and that his son is Jesus. Jesus was born in Judea around 4B.C. Since he acheived so manygreat following many Roman leaders thought he was a threat to their power. In the end authorities arrested him and killed him.

Drawing Of Rome

In our drawing of Rome, I learned that the Roman had slaves to work for them, the main religion was Christianity, the Seven Hills made settlement easier, chariots were the main transportation and a popular sport, and Rome went from a republic to an empire.

Roman Empire

I learned that Julius Caesar was killed by the Roman Senate because they thought he would have too much power. So his adopted son Octavian was the new ruler of Rome. He changed his name to Augustus and brought Rome to a Pax Romana which means Roman peace.

Julius Caesar And His Son

(Julius Caesar)
During Mr. G's great history class, We have learned about the Roman Empire. What I remember most was about Julius Caesar And His Son. Julius Caesar was a powerful Roman leaader and the the sole ruler of Rome.. He had many loving followers and was also an extremely public figure. Unfortunately, this also meant that he had many enemies jealous for power. He was murdered by his political opponents. A "bloody power struggle" followed. His adopted son, Octavian, defeated his opponents and became the unchallenged ruler of Rome. Because he was the single and unchallenged ruler of Rome, Rome became an Empire with Octavian at its head. Octavian soonafter changed his name to Augustus or "Divine One." During his rule, a period known as the Pax Romana, or Roman Peace began.

Christianity

Christian teachings continued to spread in Rome even after Jesus was put to death. Romans sought to capture and kill many Christians because they refused to worship the Roman gods. However, even though they presecuted many Christians, Christianity grew stronger, spreading throughout the empire.

:[ The Fierce Huns and their affect on Rome

In our homework worksheet, we learned about the Huns. It said, "Many Germanic groups moved onto Roman lands in an attempt to escape the fierce Huns." In the worksheet they are merely background information, but who are they really?
The Huns, hungry for land and power, were a strong Asian tribe. They threathened many great empires, and when they drove out the Germanic groups, Rome went on a decline because the numerous Germanic groups took over Rome in 476 B.C.

Rome fell not because of the Germanic groups but because of the Huns who drove the Germanic groups in the first place! What would have happened if the Huns were never there? Would Rome fall by itself because it was growing weaker, or would someone else conquer them? What is your idea?
Fun Tip!
Actually, the Huns are so well-known as cruel warriors that the Germans in World War II were called Huns for "propaganda" purposes.
Propaganda: information given from one side of the group that shows only one side of the debate, war, or etc.

Rome and their decline

When Rome divided into East and West sides, the ruling became easier. Constantine became the Diocletian emperor and the attacks of Christians ended, allowing that religion to grow. However, in the end, German people and also those of Europe and Asia invaded to either running away from the Huns or looking for new land and wealth. Germanic tribes took the Rome and the West side of the empire fell. However,
the Eastern side of the empire grew and soon became the Byzantine Empire.

Christianity...

Christianity was first taught by Jesus. many of the ideas in Christianity were based on the ideas in Judaism because Jesus was brought up with that religion. the roman consuls didn't like how followers of Christianity were worshiping one god, and it wasn't their gods. they failed in trying to kill all the Christians and the religion just kept on spreading to a whole bunch of people all over the world. they finally decided to kill Jesus but his beliefs lived on to this day. and nowadays, Christianity is one of the most believed religion.

Constantinople: The Capital City

I learned that Constantinople was the capital of the Byzantine Empire. Constantinople's location had a large growth with people coming in and out. It stood between Europe and southwest Asia, because of the location, it was a thriving center of business and trade. The main street running through the city was the Mese, or "Middle Way." Citizens also could enjoy free entertainment at the city's large arena.

Geography of Rome

The Romans started on seven hills called: Quirinal, Viminal, Esquiline, Caelian, Aventine, Palatine, Capitoline. The hills were used to defend the Romans when they are during attack. There was a wall surrounding the seven hills, it was called the Servian Wall. Near the river was the Tiber River, which could be used to fish. They could even use the river to trade with other places.

Cartography!

During our outdoor mapmaking-using-chalk activity, I learned hiow tough it really was for cartographers to make maps. Also, i discovered how perfect a map would need to be for a sailor or a car driver to find his way to where he wants to go.

Rome and its geography! (:

The people of Rome experienced cool, Rainy Winters which concluded in acres of healthy farmlands. Romes location near the Apennines Mountain Range, protected the city from harsh weather. Also, it protected it from invasions of other countries. The Tiber river provided trade, transportation, food and water. Overall, I think the Romans life was a peaceful place with no conflict if they had a good leader.

Roman Sports

I have learned that the romans enjoyed violence for entertainment like in gladiator games (which were held in the colosseum). Many slaves were forced and have died in gladiator games. The Romans also had chariot racing which sometimes were very brutal. If your chariot was tipped over you could have been crushedby your horses if you didn't have a knife to cut yourself free. In many games they ended bloody. Here is the Colosseum http://www.the-artfile.com/gallery/history/roman/colosseum.jpg

Roman Empire and Augustus

I liked learning about the empires and its rulers. While I was reading I came across the sentence, "Rome becomes an empire under Augustus." Augustus's father is Caesar. Opponents of Caesar kills him so his adopted son Octavian becomes the ruler. Octavian took the name Augustus. I learned by just reading the history book that Augustus was a very powerful and brilliant leader. Also, the roman empire became strong because of Augustus. During his rule, he created a strong goverment. In my worksheet I learned about Pax Romana which was known as "Roman Peace". During the rule of Augustus a period of peace and prosperity began which was known as "Pax Romana". I really liked reading about Rome because it is very exciting.

I learned that Julius Caesar was murdered by the senate because he named himself the sole ruler. After his death, Caesar's adopted son, Octavian, took power but later changed his name to Augustus. Chariot Racing!!!

Chariot races... CRASH! I learned chariot races were a part of entertainment in Rome. It also provided careers as chariot racers. But it was dangerous, too. In the Circus Maximus, there can be spectacular crashes, killing the man and the horses. But it was still a big show, attracting most of the empire.

Decline of the Roman Empire

I learned that through internal weaknesses, the empire started to decline. Even though Rome was the most powerful empire and the largest, by far, it declined and split because of agricultural, political, and economical problems. It was quite sad how the citizens "no longer showed a willingness to sacrifice for the good of Rome." If the empire only showed the interest in the citizens themselves and not power, the Romans would have stayed the way they were. Politics and become corrupt and nothing was the same. Rome was not Rome. :( It was probably not the greatest time period to live in. http://www.acs.ucalgary.ca/~vandersp/Courses/maps/fullmap2.jpg

Only the Roman, or all the Empires?

In the history books, it said that Christianity was developed in Rome. But it was kind of strange to me how some of the Romans persecuted the Christians , even when it started near their region. The Romans were afraid if the Christians would outgrow them and become greater.

Aren't the Romans kind of conceited and selfish? They wanted all the power for themselves. Or did all of empires back then want fame and fortune? I guess everyone did, so that their empires would grow. But if I had an empire, I would have citizen approval and only conquer other lands if the citizens wanted to. If I did this, then unlike the Roman Empire, my empire wouldn't fall because of too much taxes, less information passed on about civic matters, and useless agriculture because of the bad soil. The Roman Empire started strong, but became weak. Well, at least their legacy stayed.
- Sunny Kim :)

Augustus

I learned that the romans started as a small town and later owned the biggest empire ever. With the help of Augustus, Rome was able to to have a strong government and a strong period of piece known as the pax romana.

Roman Culture

Romans have their culture typically derived from the Greeks. Actually, it feels like they're almost the exact same thing. They just name their beliefs differently. In English, much Roman names are used for many objects, for example, like planets called Pluto, or Venus. They took many objects or beliefs and replaced their names.

Using what they have learned from the Greeks, they attempt to improve what they have from the Greeks.

The Romans

I learned that when Rome divided into east and west, the western part fell because of invaders. The eastern part survived and it then became known as the Byzantine Empire, which went on for many more centuries. It continued to carry the cultures of the Romans, which are still used today. Roman art, such as mosaics, can be seen in churches and important government buildings today. Their language, which was Latin, had influenced English, the language that we use. Their building methods, which included arches, domes, and vaults, can be seen still today everywhere. Aqueducts, invented by the Romans, still exist today, and the styles of bridges and freeway roads today were influenced by Romans. Now when I look at the many arches in my house, I think of the Romans and how their ways are still used today. -JANICE :)

Greek or Roman

today i saw a book about greek mythology and it said that the god of the underworld is pluto, but i thought pluto is a roman name so that threw me off.

The First Romans

From Mr. G's class, I learned that Rome used their surroundings as best as they could. They used the hills around them to act as a defense against enemies of war. In addition, they used the Tiber River as defense AND as a way of transporting goods.

Below is a picture of Rome, its hills, and the Tiber River

Augustus

I learned that Augustus was Ceaser's abdopted son. His former name was Octavian. Augustus was a really strong emperor during Roman time.
