The Romans

I learned that when Rome divided into east and west, the western part fell because of invaders. The eastern part survived and it then became known as the Byzantine Empire, which went on for many more centuries. It continued to carry the cultures of the Romans, which are still used today. Roman art, such as mosaics, can be seen in churches and important government buildings today. Their language, which was Latin, had influenced English, the language that we use. Their building methods, which included arches, domes, and vaults, can be seen still today everywhere. Aqueducts, invented by the Romans, still exist today, and the styles of bridges and freeway roads today were influenced by Romans. Now when I look at the many arches in my house, I think of the Romans and how their ways are still used today. -JANICE :)
