Harlem Renaissance=Europe's Renaissance

Both in Europe and even in Harlem there was a rebirth called the Renaissance. They both had similar aspects although the way of decline in Harlem was the depression in the 1930s. Due to this, both eras had a total drop in the population. They both also declined because of war. Europe had the Hundred Years’ War as United States with Harlem included had World War I. These two eras had many similarities and differences having to do with their rebirth.

The Harlem Renaissance refers to an era where there was much written and artistic creativity among African Americans after World War I. World War I created much difficulty because that was the start of the depression in the 1930s and was due to the shortage of labor and money. During this gruesome time, some African Americans produced different types of writing, poetry, fiction, drama, and essay. The Harlem Renaissance was more than just a change in the literary movement; it also caused a racial movement. The racial movement included having blues as a type of music.

In Europe the Renaissance was due to the Hundred Years’ War and also the bubonic plague, soon known as the Black Death. This led to a low population as the feudal society was not doing well. As there weren’t serfs to work for them, they even had to raise the price for salary in order to get people to work for them. Due to this, the feudal society was weakened as they were going into something like the depression of the Harlem Renaissance. Soon there was a rebirth of Europe due to the sudden reopening of the Silk roads with protection led them to the rebirth. There was a rebirth of art, literature, and so much more.

Between these two eras, there isn't much of a difference between why the recession happened and what improved and so on. The Harlem Renaissance was more of a depression and having to do with the race of African Americans. However, due to the Hundred Years' War and the plague, the feudal society also weakened as there was soon the Dark Ages. As they both had depressions and Dark ages, they soon had a rebirth known as the Renaissance. These two are very related yet different.

This is a photo when there was a rebirth or Renaissance in Europe.

This is an art painted by an African American artist that based it on the Harlem Renaissance.
