A Roller Coaster Ride!

  • How did the wealth that brought the Abbasids power also lead to their downfall?

The wealth that brought the Abbasids power also lead to their downfall because of poor leadership, Fatimid revolt, and the Seljuk Turks. The Abbasids were fond of easy living. They were selfish from the beginning of their rule. They wanted to be the only ones to rule. Therefore, they ignored their government responsibilities. They also did little to protect merchants from attacks by bandits, which badly hurt trade, a big source of the caliph's wealth. The Abbasids then raised taxes and the people were tired of the Abbasids selfish behavior.

The Fatimid revolt also brought the Abbasids to their downfall. The Abbasids had a very fancy life style and the fatimids thought that Muslims should live more simply. From the beginning they were very wealthy and that is how the Abbasids took control. The Fatimids then drove the Abbasids out of power. This is an example of how the Abbasids' wealth brought them to their downfall.

Personnaly, I think the Abbasids rule was more like a roller coaster ride then anything else. They were rising up and up and up with their weath and power until they finnally got to the very top and then went down. Just like a roller coaster ride. You go up and up and up to the top of the roller coaster and then you droppppppp! Aghhhhh!
