Maintaining power; the Umayyads

By: ty Boll
HOW DID THE UMAYYADS MAINTAIN POWER?
The Umayyads maintained their rule by setting up a bureaucracy and by setting up a common coinage and language system. The bureaucracy helped them maintain control of their government. This was important because their ruler couldn't always have time to deal with problems related to the people. The common language and coinage helped make trade easier. Because trade was easier, more money was coming into their cities. I think that this was important because without it, they wouldn't have had all their success. These things affect us today because we don't have a single person in charge of everything, instead we have also set up a bureaucracy. We also have common language and coinage. Though now we see English instead of Arabic and paper money instead of coins, they still serve the same purpose they had before.
