The Abbasids have ruled the Islamic Empire with great power and wealth. But sooner or later, that wealth can go into people’s heads. For example, because it had ruled many lands, it had also many riches. And part of these riches had to be paid to the political figures and representatives. The politicians had been paid a lot by the government, so they were used to the easy life. Therefore, the politicians neglected their duties and became lazy. Sadly, this also happens today, in modern politics. Because some politicians are lazy and go on the easy life, they neglect their civic duties. Also, another connection is that they like to take easy ways out of hassling government duties. Back then, they just blamed it on people or banish them, or whatever punishments they had. Nowadays, lazy politicians blame the poor and try to find loopholes. Another is that outside invaders were threatening the empires. Again, the bad political structure did not help the city, so the Fatimids got to come through the walls of the city and conquer. Today, if our political structure was as bad as the Abbasid’s, we would not have a good country today. We can learn from the Abbasids and see that wealth should not go to our heads.
