Role of families in Confucianism and in West African

Confucius included the principles of respecting family and older generations in his teachings. Confucius also taught that you should use right relationships to produce social order. Confucius taught that people could advance in life through education. His ideas influenced the society. He thought society should be organized around five basic relationships. One relationship was between ruler and subject. Other relationships were based on family. In Confucianism and in West African culture, family relationships were important. West African culture had kinship groups and clans. In kinship groups, decisions were often made by a council of the eldest members. Members of kinship groups felt strong loyalty to each other.
