Powerful Rome and Religious Islam
Rome and the Islamic world can be compared in many ways. Some of these aspects include how they worship, how they had leaders, and their life in the trade society. In some ways, Rome and Islam can be the same or different.
To begin with, Romans and Islamic civilians can be compared in similarities with the fact how they worship. Romans and Muslims worshiped in some God. Rome had Christianity, so they were taught by Jesus to worship God (pg. 50). On the other hand, Muslims had monotheism, meaning a belief in one God, which they worshiped Allah. (pg. 88). This shows that religion is important because it maintains stability in these two worlds. This is important because Christianity had a big impact on Rome and monotheism brought many people to worship Allah. So, having beliefs were big impacts to both Rome and the Islam world.
Additionally, Rome and the Islam world can have differences in how they had leaders. Rome became an empire, and the emperor ruled the empire (pg. 49). This shows that people wanted power over an empire as emperor. Muhammad was a strong leader, but when he died, Muslims had no leader (pg. 99). So, they had Abu Bakr to succeed Muhammad (pg.100). These “successors” were known to be caliphs, and there were many more caliphs to come (pg.100). This also showed that caliphs had big roles in leadership by succeeding another. Although, Rome and the Islam world with different leadership, leaders had big roles.
Finally, how did the Romans and Muslims embark on the trade society? Rome was a big empire, when Constantinople rose; it was a growing trade center (pg. 60). This had many people roaming around the area. They had a street running through the city, called a Mese or “Middle Way.” In the Muslim society, they had a growth of trade cities (pg. 87). Muslims, too, had many trade routes. This shows that both Romans and Arabs were affected with trade because of the civilians interested in trade. So, trade is a developing center of importance.
In conclusion, Rome and Islam were their own individual worlds. So, they are compared with differences and similarities, such as how they worship, how they had leaders, and life in the trade society.

Nice essay Anthony. You used your anaylsis well to back up all the information you gave. If I had never heard about these worlds, I would have learned a lot about it. Good Job!!!
