♥♥♥♥Islam and Rome: Similar of Different? Read and find out.♥♥♥♥

Can you imagine living in the desert, with harsh weather? Or how about living in luxury, with people waiting on you night and day? Life was different in Rome and in the Islamic world, but in certain ways, actually very similar. These ways could be technological, environmental, or socio-cultural.

Islam and Rome both advanced technologically, in different ways, or in similar ways. Some similarities include their architecture. They both built large worship grounds (pg 60, 88).
This probably meant that each nation was largely based on religion. However, a difference in their technology, or, more accurately, their architecture, was that Rome had large, grander buildings. The Muslims had smaller housing, and minimal decor. This could represent how Rome flourished( though the ruins today suggest otherwise ), while Muslims struggled to survive. Also, it also shows how much Rome could afford to spend, while it was very rare to have colorful buildings in the Islamic region. In short, both Muslims and Romans had very advanced technology.

Another common aspect the Roman and Islamic nations shared was the environment. Though the areas differed, they both used them to their advantage. The Romans lived in " a series of hills along the Tiber River " (pg 47), while Muslims lived in the harsh desert region of present day Saudi Arabia. They both used their surroundings to their advantage. Romans used the Tiber River as a trade sea, while the Islamic people used oases as an easy source of water. This shows how creative they were. It also shows how little the Muslims had. Both civilizations used the environment as a source of necessities.

Another aspect both civilizations shared was their culture. They had different religions, Romans being Catholic, and Muslims being, well, Muslims. This shows how different their beliefs were . It also shows how influential they are to us now, those being the two biggest religions today. However, both religions had firm beliefs in fellowship. The Muslims had the " Five Pillars of Islam ", while the Romans followed the Justinian Code. It could also represent how aggressive these people were, and needed laws to keep chaos at bay. In any case, the culture shows how different their lifestyles were.

In conclusion, Romans and Muslims have differences, yet have their similarities. They both advanced technologically, used the wildlife, and lived by the law. This shows how drastically their lives were affected by certain aspects of life.
