Islam vs. Rome

Even though Rome and Islam weren’t in the same place they were very similar and very different in many ways. For example the way they went to war, got water, and worshiped were alike and different.

They were very similar to the way they went to war because Ancient Rome and Islamic culture both conquered the same lands. Like Islam conquered Syria and lower Egypt which was part of the Byzantine Empire (pg.100-101) that the Romans were rulers over. And the people they conquered, they let them live freely amongst them, but they were also different like Rome made them worship their gods, and Islam let them worship freely, but made them pay extra taxes.

The way they got water was very simular and different because they both made sure that they didn't have to travel far out to get water. The Romans built aquaducts that brought fresh water into cities and towns. Islam made sure that they lived next to water. Like the Bedouins lived next to the Oasis, which is a dessert area that contians water, or others lived next to the Arabian Peninsula which contained tons of water.

The way they worshiped was also very simular, yet different. Like the way Roamns built chuches like the Hagia Sophia and later they had to religions to choose from like Roman Catholic and the Easteren Orthodox. Islam built temples like ka'aba and they believed in many gods. Many Jews and Christians lived in the Arabian Peninsula and they only belieed in one god.

In conclusion Ancient Rome and Islam were very simular and different in many ways. Like the way they went to war, by conquering lands along with the same lands, the way they fetched water, by building aquaducts and living next to Oasis, and the way they worshiped, by building churches and temles, like the ka'aba and the Hagia Sophia.
