virtual FIELD TRIP!!!!! :)
I think that a good place to go on our virtual field trip would be Pompeii. Pompeii used to be a thriving city. It was next to Mount Vesuvius and near Naples in southern Italy. Pompeii and its neighbor, Herculaneum, were covered in lava when the dormant volcano erupted in AD 79 (picture above). Mount Vesuvius hadn't erupted in over 200 years before then. The eruption lasted for two days, but not before most of the inhabitants of both cities were buried alive. Pompeii's culture clashed with Roman culture when it was under Roman rule. Pompeii used the Roman style of architecture and had many mosiacs. One of the more famous ones (shown on the left) It has a skull on a type of weighing scale. Its name supposedly means :"Remember you will die". It was supposed to remind people of the 'fleeting nature of earthly fortunes.' Even though ancient Pompeii is in ruins, a new Pompeii has taken its place. I think that Pompeii would be a great place to visit.
