Aladdin. . . A Whole New World!!!

Today, we watched the famous Disney movie, Aladdin which relates to the next chapter we'll be learning about in social studies, Islam. Even though, we all know there's no such thing as magic genies granting your wishes and flying carpets, there are also alot of other things from Aladdin that is similar to Islam. Some of the stereotype and true information about Islam based on Aladdin is that Islam is a city of mystery. To start off, some of the animals they probably owned are camels, monkeys, and elephants. Islam probably had some places full of sand and large gust of winds. Furthermore, Islam was a pretty poor place and most of the kids and people were starving with barely anything to eat except for the sultans and princesses who lives in palaces and are rich. In the marketplace located in the streets, there are merchants selling pottery, jewelry, and food. However, there are also burglars trying to steal the items especially valuable ones. There 's also a dungeon where they threw the burglars in with rats crawling around. In the Islamic world, the men dressed in turbans with puffy pants and the women wore shawls/scarves except the royalty; they dressed differently. As you can see, the movie Aladdin is quite similar to life in Islam.
Aladdin! Jamine! Genie! Abu! Iago! Magic Carpet! Rocks!

You are right I'm not sure about the puffy pans though. The movie did show a lot of culture. Even if the movie had some stereotypes. :D
